Running a Marathon Could Endanger Heart

Be careful if you include people who like to run a marathon. In addition to making the body more healthy, running a marathon also has a negative impact, which trigger heart problems such as increasing blood pressure and cause stiffness in the aorta artery.

"Cardiovascular system like a sports car engine. If not used to be broken, but if you run too fast and long, can burn," said chief researcher, Despina Kardara of Athens Medical School Hippokration Hospital and in Greece, as VIVAnews quotes from NYDaily, Sunday March 21, 2010.

To prepare to run 26.2 miles, marathon runners 49 are trained about 10 to 19 hours per week over a period ranging from two to 20 years. They were compared with the same 46 people from about age, height and risk factors. Then, researchers measured the aortic artery stiffness in runners using the wave

Of measurement is known that blood pressure waves in marathon runners is greater than the average wave velocity, which showed an increased risk of high blood pressure and heart disease.

"Aortic stiffness indicates that when the heart contraction, blood pressure increased more than usual and can lead to arterial stiffness," said Paul D. Thompson, MD, Chief of Cardiology at the center of Hartford Hospital.

But this does not happen to all runners. Thompson said. "This is a new discovery, and we will see progress. I've learned that, although the exercise is intended to reduce the risk of heart disease, but there are times when even increase the risk of death,"
